Clamshell_Gauntlets

Clamshell gauntlets, without a doubt the workhorse gauntlet of the SCA, and have been for years. Solid whole-hand protection, with overarching lames covering all your fingers.

We offer these gauntlets in a number of variations, the first (and probably most important) being Stainless Steel and Titanium. Both very solid, and highly protective (and when polished out the same, darn near impossible to tell apart) Either will serve well, Titanium, however, weighs about 1/3 of what stainless steel weighs; you do the math on what that means to your hand speed.

The second major variation/difference is in cuff styles. Standard cuffs are mid-length, with a three lame, leather articulated wrist. Upgrade to a five lame collapsing wrist with sliding rivets for an appearance that is more accurate for later period personas. Go to a brigandine cuff for early-period personas, concealing metal plates under a leather cuff. Alternatively you can always have a short cuff, where your vambraces are very long, or to emulate some oriental or mongolian styles of hand protection. Or if you really want to go all out, we could always integrate your gauntlets with your arm armour, in the style of some late-medieval harnesses.

Another option available to you is enclosed thumbtips. We find that the standard thumbs that we use protect us just fine. . . but so many fighters have been conditioned to automatically ask for enclosed thumbtips, that we've started offering them, just so we had an answer when people asked! ;-)

We make these, to your size from a hand tracing that you provide to us. So for those of you with little hands, gargantuan mitts, or fingers that point in odd directions. . . we've got you covered! No more worries that large just won't be large enough, or that small will still leave your fingers swimming.
