"Because you don't need to sacrifice your appearance for Performance"
Performance Salletias (like the other helmets in our performance line) begin life as a 10g stainless steel blank. That is so that after they are shaped we end up with something that has a nominal thickness on the top of at least 12g. We then add a skirt of 16g stainless, and create a crestline from welded solid stock (after that's welded on and ground, it makes for nearly 3/4" of solid stainless steel along the crestline of the helmet! (I know. . . we over-engineer things. . . but it's just how we are ;-) )
Once we've got the helmet top completed, we create a low-profile welded-on bargrill from 1/4" roundstock, and grind it to present the smoothest profile we can manage.
Then we powdercoat the bargrill to black it out (better vision in direct sunlight when it's dark than when it can pick up reflections.)
To maintain the clean glancing surfaces as much as possible, we do an etch of the classic scalloped line around the face, rather than another plate. This helmet has proved to be extremely popular with folx who have later-period personas, but stll want a helm with highly-competetive glancing surfaces.
This helmet is also available with side-pivoting, removable/interchangeable faceplates, including pierced metal faceplates for fencing, and plate-design faceplates such as the knight visor.
Also now available in 16g stainless steel, 14g mild steel, and 18g mild steel (costume grade).
This is another Performance-Armour Exclusive item. . . made by us, and only available through us.
