Carrying round, centergripped shields painted in bold colors to disguise the direction of the woodgrain.
Wearing steel spangen-helms with a nasal, and sometimes featuring a low crest and eyebrows or occular reinforcements, also sometimes present with a maille drape over the face & back of head.
Limb protection was often absent, although sometimes boiled leather or splinted limb defenses would have been used.
Hand protection was typically absent, although maille or leather mittens would have been utilized occasionally
Typical Weapons would have included:
Heavy broadswords, often with lobed pommels
Large two-handed danish axes
Single-handed bearded axes
6-7' spears, and sometimes boar-spears
As a backup weapon and utility-blade the seax, a dagger-length single-edged knife
